The story now turns to Sanzang, who bid farewell to King Zhuzi and proceeded westward after making preparations for his journey. After traversing countless mountains and plains, and enduring innumerable waterways, they soon found that autumn had passed and winter was waning, and it had now come to the bright and beautiful days of spring. As the master and his disciples were walking along the road, enjoying the scenery and the spring outing, they suddenly saw a nunnery surrounded by trees. Sanzang dismounted from his horse, rolled down his saddle, and stood beside the main road. Wukong asked, "Master, this path is flat and straight; why aren't we taking it?" Bajie said, "Elder Brother, you really don't understand the situation." "The master has been sitting on his horse for so long that he is tired; it's only natural to let him get off and stretch a bit." Sanzang said, "It's not just for stretching. I see that there is a house over there and would like to go by myself to beg for some food." Wukong laughed and said, "Master, what you are saying makes no sense. If you want to eat vegetarian food, I will go beg for it myself." An old saying goes: "One day as a teacher, a father for life." "How could it be right for a disciple to sit idly while making the master go out and beg for food?" Sanzang said, "It's not that simple." "On ordinary days, when the horizon stretches endlessly in all directions, you go begging for food without regard to distance or direction." "But today there are people nearby, and I can easily ask them. So let me go beg a meal myself." Bajie said, "Master, you have no sense of direction." "As the old saying goes: 'When three people travel together, it is the youngest who suffers.'" "You are like a father figure, and we are all your disciples." "An ancient text says: 'In times of need, the disciple should bear the labor.'" "Let me old pig go." Sanzang said, "Disciples, today the weather is clear and bright, unlike those rainy or stormy days." "At that time, you would certainly have gone far away." "But now there is a nearby house. Let me go and see if they can offer food or not, so I can return quickly and continue our journey." Sha Wujing smiled beside them and said, "Elder Brother, there is no need to argue further. The master has his own mind; we should not oppose him." "If he becomes upset, even if you bring back food, he won't eat it."

One might mistakenly think they had lost control, but in a flash, another would turn around and make a sharp move. They calmly presented their calves with grace, precisely seizing the moment to strike at the tip. Lifting their heels, they splashed through grassy shoes and turned back suddenly for a backward kick. Stepping back with a graceful shoulder movement, the hook-like motion was executed in one swift strike. They descended from their basket-like perch and immediately lunged forward to seize the door. When they reached the moment of perfection, all the beautiful women cheered in admiration. They searched every peach and plum tree without finding anything. Zhu Bajie said, "He's gone, he's gone." Sha Wujing said, "We don't need to look for him. Let me help Master go instead." The brothers returned in front and helped Tang Sanzang onto his horse. Zhu Bajie said, "You help Master walk. Let me use my iron rake to knock down this house in one go so that when he comes back there will be nowhere for him to hide." Wukong laughed and said, "It's still too much trouble to knock it down. Why not find some firewood instead and burn the whole thing to the ground?" The clever monkey gathered some rotten pines, broken bamboo, dry willows, and withered vines. He lit a fire, and in no time the whole place was burned clean. Only then did the master and his disciples feel at ease as they continued forward.
